The Purpose of Creation
The fourth segment of this conversation poses the fundamental question of what it is all for, if it is not to save me from the fires of hell when I die.
Me: A question has been bothering me. Why did you create this world where evil wields such power? You must have known this ahead of time because you know everything in the past and future. Why didn’t you just create everyone first in your realm, where there is no evil?
God: The short answer is, yes, I did. Every spirit being I’ve ever created, including the human race, began in my realm untainted.
Me: So, why did you create this world where so much evil exists? Or was it good until the human race arrived?
God: Evil existed before your race arrived. Indeed, this world was set apart as a place where evil might exist because it could not remain in my realm.
Me: So, what happened to necessitate this?
God: Everyone in my realm is inextricably linked to me and each other, living in full peace and harmony and free to do whatever they desire. This necessitates some sort of order, but one of my close associates decided he wanted to take over and create his own order. He recruited others to join him, and it spread like a disease, leaving me with little choice but to quarantine them. Your world, and indeed your entire universe, is where that quarantine exists, and it expresses itself as the evil you witness.
Me: That’s terrible, but you put me here. I didn’t ask to be born into this world, and it just seems cruel that you did it knowing what would happen to me and what I would do.
God: Actually, you agreed to be a part of the Great Rescue Plan, which included becoming who you are now.
Me: I don’t recall any of that. If it were true, I’m sure I’d remember.
God: Before you were human, we spent time together and decided what kind of life you would lead if you had the freedom to choose. We agreed that the memory of this would be withheld from you in order to give you that freedom and allow you to affect events in ways that you would not be able to accomplish if you already knew what was going to happen.
Me: What is this great Plan you speak of?
God: The quarantine was never intended to be permanent, but the beings who ended up there began to believe that I despised them and wanted to see them suffer. So, it was decided to introduce a race of beings that could show them what I am truly like, which is where you come in.
All of this was a little overwhelming for me. It was certainly not what I had been taught. However, I was curious as to how this was supposed to work in practice, so I persisted in my enquiries.
